ISE Senior Capstone Course:
ISE 680.01 & 680.02 - Industrial Practice in Systems Design I and II

Description

This course provides an opportunity for senior ISE students to apply their knowledge of IE theory and techniques to address engineering problems in industry. The course activities focus on a system-design project sponsored by a local organization. The project duration is two academic quarters. Typically, three or four students work together as a team on each project. Each team is supervised by a faculty mentor and projects progress through the following three phases: (1) Background and problem definition, (2) Preliminary analysis and design, and (3) Final analysis and design. Sponsoring organizations are diverse in size and type. Past project sponsors include Honda of America, Sherwin-Williams, UPS, Columbus Children's Hospital, The Limited, Columbus Wood Products, and Wasserstrom.

This two-quarter sequence course is offered in the Autumn/Winter and Winter/Spring quarters every year. Instructors for Autumn/Winter are Drs. Lundquist and Mount-Campbell and for Winter/Spring quarter are Drs. Brevick and Sink.

680 is an in-depth systems design project for industrial engineering. It is a 2-qtr sequence, and must be taken in consecutive qtrs. It serves as the GEC 3rd writing course.  Credit hours each quarter: 1 2-hr cl, 2 2-hr lab.

More Info

  • Multidisciplinary Teams
Each year we have some teams made up of students from two or more engineering disciplines. For Winter/Spring 05, we had three teams of Mechanical Engineering and Industrial Engineering students working on projects for Honda.

Information for Potential Corporate/Industrial Project Sponsors

Each time 680 runs, 10-16 teams of students fan out across central OH to work on projects brought to us by various corporate and industrial sponsors. Teams have worked with hospitals, universities, consulting companies, and manufacturers of all types of products. The 680 faculty welcome the opportunity to talk with potential sponsors about ideas for project. Please click here for more information for sponsors about 680.
